Geez, all the feelings with this one. When I read, at the time, about your stay with your mother, I didn't realize you were in Daytona Beach. We were living there at the same time. Not the nicest town in Florida. Did you ever write a column about the area? Such a culture shock from NYC!

sliced my finger making salad two day ago so will write without capitals. vey good piece on difficult subject. can you come over to my place and straighten thing out. i have figured out why old people like to write. after a certain age it's all you can do.

Were you and I twins separated at birth? My mother was the Irish Catholic version of yours. She saved everything from generations before her: parents, grandparents, aunts and cousins’ “treasures” which we would no doubtedly want one day. Ireland’s detritus which the country was delighted to see GONE.
