"Me: Garth, you almost lost your house, but at the last minute someone bailed you out. You must be feeling pretty good about this.
A long pause during which life is discovered on Mars; an ice age threatens Woodstock, getting as far as Tannersville, then withdraws; I die and having learned nothing from my previous life am reborn as a feature writer." haha
ohhh god besides the fact i read "This Wheel's on Fire" and got the true skinny on this band about 20 years ago a band i have cherished since they made that first album up at Big Pink and lived close by Butterfield (and whom i wished you had interviewed back in day!!) and also Robbie Robertson who made that great album incorporating his Native American heritage, all of it, this is a complete joy to read......journalism is indeed for nosey people and when they are funny too its a great match
love it i can even excuse Levon for the poison ivy tjhing see "The Day They Drove Old Dixie Down"
well, I'm 44 and love them as I was introduced to their music by my dad when I was 12...but, I guess, 44 is not young either, though! It's all relative.
A classic. Deserves to be run every year. There is one other rule you forgot to tell the kiddies. Get your expenses up front, because the magazine might fold while you're still researching. True story. Happened to me.
Was Mel Shestack the editor? I loved him, but he did have a rep for sending writers out on stories which had not been approved by the higher ups. Or that cool men's magazine the name of which I can no longer remember? "Oui" perhaps? C'mon, Loosh, spill.
Oral antibiotics for poison ivy? Maybe if the blisters break and get infected but I've had really bad cases since I was in 3rd grade and when it was really bad (all over the inside of my forearm) they used cortisone cream (which was still prescription only in 1972) and then wrapped it up for "occlusal therapy". Then they gave me oral steroids. When I had to excavate an archeological site that was covered with the stuff, it was more oral steroids. I got desensitization shots in 1981. I also developed a preternatural sense that alerts me to its presence when I'm outside.

All of them were Canadian except Levon.
The Band--my all-time favorite group. I am old.

Not Mel. He edited True magazine, hired me repeatedly to rewrite cover stories, paid $500 in cash each time. It was Gourmet that went out of business.
RIP Messrs. Helm and Robertson, and with due respect to Mr. Hudson.
It was a largely Canadian band, no? Canadian roots, anyway.
One of the best!!!
